Hi from a newbie. I'm just getting back into building models again after about 45 years. Obviously, things have changed a lot since I was involved, and I wonder if one of you gents would put together a list of glue, cement, fillers, etc. that I will need to get off to a good start. Thank you!!

Ask ten different modelmakers and you will possibly get ten different replies!

Glue/Cement - You can get polycement cheaply enough (often thrown in as part of starter sets, etc). Thinner varieties (extra thin) are useful for joining long seams in particular.

Filler - Some like humbrol/revell filler is 'hot' when curing and entirely capable of eating plastic if too much is used. Water based fillers and putties are much easier to use and can be worked with water - almost like toothpaste in consistency. Two part epoxy resins (milliput) are a bit more specialised but useful when you need to sculpt areas.

Cocktail sticks are useful for stirring, applying tiny dobs of glue/filler and retouching the odd speck or two of damaged paintwork.

A set of files and fine sandpaper (1200 grit or higher) is also handy for blending in filler, putty and tidying kit parts up.

Paint choices are mainly enamel/acrylic. Different brands have different strengths/weaknesses and a lot will depend on if you are brush painting or using an airbrush. Some finishes (shiny metallics) are easier with an airbrush but you can use brushes with appropriate care to do almost anything else.

Other than that - jump in and have a go. The plunge can be as deep or as shallow as you like - one of the joys of modelling. If you need any suggestions of a good kit to start with after a hiatus from kitbuilding - ask away!
