Someone here posted some Allied Aircraft Recognition posters. Listed among the silhouettes were "Type Zero Navy Fighter" and "Type Zero Army Fighter."

Yeah, we were trained for JP-4 = 6.3 lbs/gal.

Back when I was a lad, this was a JP4 (Jet Provost T Mk 4):

It was also known as the "constant speed, variable noise machine". :)

I think that's what we used fuel wise in the late 80s early 90s. Somewhere along the way it turned into JP-8 / F-34.

Right, my knowledge on fuels is obsolete as they changed terminology and probably composition in the interim. JP-4 was, as you well know, the standard fuel of that era. The only other fuel I really remember was JP-7 (used in the SR-71, I never had to deal with it as a firedog 'cause we had no -71s) due to its nonvolatility requiring some nasty stuff for ignition.

I don't know the differences in chemical properties between the older fuels and modern booze.

I'm a rock-n-roll guitarist and had already played plenty of gigs when I encountered that thing. I never plugged up for a gig.

I plugged up for that little bastard.
