Water weights about 6lbs a gallon, and say you need 40-50 gallons it's not an insignificant amount of weight/space.
Biff
Fixed! It's a niggle and not arguing against your finely-laid point, but water weighs 8.35 lbs/gal. It's roughly 33% heavier than the fuels these planes used. 50 gallons of water weighs around 420 lbs. That's very significant in the era we're talking.
Did the tiger 2 P make production ?Fixed!
One gallon of Jet A weighs 6.6lbs (approximately). In pilot training we used 6.5lbs a gallon (assume it was close enough). To follow on the weight of liquids:
One gallon of Gasoline (Petrol) weighs 7.35 pounds.
One gallon of straight coolant weighs 9.3 pounds.
One gallon of SAE 30 motor oil weighs about 7.4 pounds.

I think that's what we used fuel wise in the late 80s early 90s. Somewhere along the way it turned into JP-8 / F-34.Yeah, we were trained for JP-4 = 6.3 lbs/gal.
