He was a good general but there were better Western Allied Generals, they were all in the Pacific though. Except Alexander in Italy.
 
Most Army Generals in NW Europe got the job done, in the terms of the W.Allied advance. They did they job, they didn't do it well...but they did it.
 
When an army advances against a skilled, determined defender with fewer casualties their doing a very good job. this was done with regularity in the first part of the war by the Germans and the last year and a half by the Allies. The biggest difference is that Europe wasn't ready for the German advance and the Germans were certainly ready for the Allies. To say that the German Military was much better and the Allies just got by just doesn't stand up.
