This plane with the Heinkel He-219 aircraft are both nice to be able to build for me ta154 is another that can not miss the showcase of any model.
I take him cool maybe something would give depth to the landing gear wells, with the base color mixed with a little more dark green edges would be great to remove his hat as they say in my country

Looking very nice Boats. This ship tends to be tail heavy, did you build in any weights?

Thank you for your reply Yes I added some BB,s and epoxied them inside the nose section where the radar is located, No room anywhere else I hated to omit the radar but when the model is done it will be packed away in a box and prabaly forgotten so no show and tell of the radar the eys and ears of the Black widow. Tthanks Night Fighter for your reply.

thanks fellas for your reploies with my forgotten thread which now is realality and the kit is being built i had this thing scince 1974 when it was first release to the modeling community. so far on the build I masked down all interiewr details and painted the olive drab, Letting it dry for 12 hours the next painting session will be the invasion stripes. As mentioned per last post I never seen a olive drab P-61 on all model forums so this will be different. being built straight from the box with now after market parts its going together very well as of now i am touching up here and there to see if I missed anything that will later show up in the finished pictures so i am trying to prevent this by going over the model so everything is up to snuff.

Slightly off topic maybe, but in the P-61 did the radar operator in the rear of the central section face forwards or backwards? And does anyone have a picture of this?

That's looking good Boats. I'm guessing it's from the unit based at Scorton, UK, in 1944? (Can't remember the Group off hand).

I just finished my long forgotted build of monograms P-61 black widow. A pleasure of kit to work on although it could have been built better if I had some after market detail sets but this one will be packed away in a box and forgotten for another 38 years. Being one of the first run 1.48 scale series of the new Monogram line kits produced in the mid 70,s was the very first to incorporate all the detail that their later kits were nothing more then a gimic model. the frame work around the canopy sections were masked off and sprayed, Hopefully tommorow we will have better weather and I can take her out for the finished pictures outside pix are better then the inside pix because of the limitbility of the camera HMMMMMMmmmmm maybe Mrs Clause will bring me a new camera. Here are the completed pix for the build.

Well done Boats. To answer the question about the radar operator, the radar operator sat in the back of the plane and normally faced forward. The gunner faced forward but sat behind the pilot when the plane had a gunner along. The turret on the top could be operated by both gunner and radar operator. When not looking at the scope, the R/O would watch out the rear of the plane for any aircraft that may come up from behind. I remember reading at least one instance where the R/O shot down a plane that was tailing a widow. He believed the tailing plane thought the widow was a p-38. As I recall, the Navy also had 10 P-61's that were used for training R/O's.
