and all the Sturm Fw's were R2's that you mentioned Wurger. Maxi only flew black 8 during June of 44, there was a later black 8 which I have fotos of an R8 used in the fall air battles, and I have much on friend Oskar Bösch as well as he has signed several pics to me back in the 90's.

Dan I just came upon this thread...........interesting, if you need any info just holler away.

JG 301 had a mixture of A-8's and A-9's in their line ups right through January /March of 45 easily. I wish I could post some pics from the unit for ya but I cannot as they are going to be used in a future publication ......;)

Hey Les I've sort of made the A-8! My A-5 at the start of the Model Expo thread is for the most part the A-8 modified back to the A-5.Most of the parts are common with some different components to make the A-5 model, along with some changes that I made.I even carefully drilled out the exhausts then later discovered you can get resin replacements.
The kit is a reasonably straight forward build, you will need to take care with assembly of cowl parts and then mating them to the fuselage especially where the lower wing and part A1 join together. The flaps parts F10 and F11 will sit at too steep an angle if attached as the lugs are set, you will need to alter them back to 60 degrees or less to be more accurate.

Erich I hope this new JG301 publication will not be too far away....

Wayne it will be at least a year in the making, right now full on research of my cousin and his buddies in fall of 44, there will be plenty of profiles so buy up those A-8 kits guys/gals ! :D there will be some surprises I think you will all enjoy, and the book maybe two volumes

2 Volumes??? Jesus H Christ..... Busy boy u are indeed, sickness aside... Would u happen to have a profile of ur Cousin Siegfrieds A-9 that he went down with??? Or maybe a close approximation??? U can PM me with it, or use my hotmail account to email it.... Reason I ask is that I would like to build a model of his crate in the near future.... Lemme know what u think, would ya??

Thanks for the info Wayne, and yes, I have already read up on the "Cowl from Hell" that comes with the kit... Why Hasegawa didnt fix that POS I'll never know... Ill go back to that thread and the model out again...

yes I have a profile but it needs a bit of adjustment, now to find it so you can see it instead of a small 3x4 inch thing. will look and get back to ya.

E here is a bit of a stickler since I have never found a pic of the bird, but it may or may not have had a blown canopy, also it may or may not have had a wooden propellar. Also too the drop tank may have been different since the late fall of 44 there were two different types not being used.......yeah it's all minor really. I do wonder if he had outboard 20mm's as well as it appears he may have gone after the bombers when he was shot down and was trying to escape the US P-51 escort as he was leaving the target area.

let me look further

suck I hope this works for ya Dan ? my PC downloading is having probs like me man..............not popping up prob.

note the second gruppe should be red not white

note the diving bird done up by some Brazilian guy for his site which he copyrighted, but never asked my permission the stooge, he noted my cousins profile on the net and tapped it off. the second is the profile and hopeful it enlarges done up by a German artist R. Kliemann. He did another with a blown canopy and only the inboard 2cm weapons installed, but I cannot seem to find that......

E ` but in any case a pretty bitchin profile I think

the second gruppe bar should be more centered and in red with a thin black outline indicating II. gruppe of JG 301. the white bar indicates I./JG 301. I was guessing back in 01 when Rainier were working for months on this very profile.

have you though about doing up a heavy A-8 of III./JG 301, not the sturm type but the A-8 with 4 20mm's and the cowling MG 131's ? look in Reschke's book

understandable friend but will say that once the volume(s) are out that I am working on there will be a host of 109/Fw decals available .... 8) go buy another A-8 kit or 2 and tell you luv to go buy 2 more as well you will need them

Hehe, I freakin LOVE ur optimism brother... As the 190 is my favorite crate, even though my Gramps flew Corsairs, I plan on doing several different versions...

A-8/R2 Fully Armoured up, balls to the wall Sturmbocke, whose Im not sure yet..(Advice?)
A-9/R11 of ur Cousin Siegfried
A-6
D-9 JV44 Circus Red Bird
D-13
152H of Willi's

Dan there are some SturmFw decals with Eagle editions already and I know once he has the second volume of the Dora published, in time soon he will have decals most probably even of the JV 44 Würger birds. these will be covered in the volume 2 as well as the D-13 and he is suppose to be covering the Doras that had R4M's fitted too I believe with JG 26 and ....... ?
