I have had this kit in the stash for a while but today I decided to open the box and do a bit of work. I only meant to do an hour or so but the England v Pakistan test match was on the radio and I couldn't leave the work bench. What a match cricket is boring apart from when it leaves you a sweaty tense nervous wreck an England speciality.

Anyway England won the match which they really should have lost and I have nearly built a model in one day.

There were no locating pins or slots so I drilled all the wing supports and fitted 0.45mm wires to keep everything tight.

England does do that in sports. I am a fan when they play football always chanting hoping for them. Not to screw up.
And i am Dutch.
Not as much as for the Irish offcourse but you have to have lived through a match with Irish fans to understand that. Never have made so many 90 min comrades of the opposing team ever.
They where and are bloody marvoulous. A real gift to football.

The paint chart called for Aluminium dope but I have used straight Aluminium paint before and thought it was too bright and metallic for a doped fabric, so I decided to experiment. I mixed one part Vallejo Model Air Aluminium 71.062 with one part Model Air Insignia White 71.279 and gave it a real good mix, mixing it for about two minutes so it didnt seperate when I brushed it. I hairy sticked it using a Humbrol flat brush size 5 and it gave a nice grainy texture which really looks the part. I will tinker with the mix to give a variation on the different parts.

All finished, usually I like my models with a good coat of Matt varnish but this just felt like a glossy plane. The transfers in this kit were horrible thick with a horrible visible carrier film. I thought they were going to need fixing with a hammer to get them to sit down and follow the contours. Many coats of Decalfix were needed.

I have just found the Aldiss tube type gunsight which I had carefully painted and put to one side to dry. Ain't no way I can drill the holes to fix it into position with the wing in the way. Oh well no one will notice if I keep quiet about it 🤬😜
