Hello,
I am a French living in Provence (France).
Former model maker in my young years from 1967 to 1974, I am retired and came back into the models four years ago. It is a seasonal occupation for the bad days of autumn and winter and I divide my montages between the aviation 39-45 in 1/72 and the Astronautics.
Since my takeover, I made four models of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, but also an FW 190 A2 fighter-bomber and a morane Saulnier MS 406.
I signed up on WW2aircraft.net in 2016 to let you know about the Heller brand pursuit, but due to my poor English, I haven't had a message since. I'm coming back today to introduce myself, using Google's translation software, but I've corrected a few inconsistencies.
Concerning the BoB, I first made an old Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant Mk 1 (N1581) from Squadron 255, operating on the East Midlands in the early months of 1941, during the German blitz. Delivered around June 1940, first transferred to the Royal Navy, it returned to Squadron 255 in November 1940, based in Kirton-on-Lindsey, Hilbaldstow. The N1581 was the oldest Defiant in Squadron 255, which was operational only from January 8, 1941, due to the snow.
The second was a Blenheim Mk 1F fighter-bomber of the Squadron 600, the only survivor of a mission of 6 planes on May 05,1940 on Waalhaven (Netherlands), and finally shot down on August 09,1940 during a coastal patrol.
The third aircraft was a Junkers JU 88 A4 registered S4 + OH which may be was one of the first JU88 A4 assigned to Staffel 1 of the Küstenfliergergruppe 506 (1./KüFlGr 506) of the Kriegsmarine, on the air base of the island of Perleberg in April 1941, before being transferred to the Luftwaffe in 1./KampfGruppe 506 (1./KGr 506) in October 1941 (Airfile book "Adler gegen England). I could not find an older version of decals for a JU 88 A4. Only a few of them had been used during the Battle of Britain, or even during the subsequent Blitz.
A Dornier DO 17 Z from 9/KG 76 of the famous mission on August 18, 1940 on Kenley was my 4th work. It was Joaquin Roth's F1 + DT that was one of the 2 DO 17 Z shot down near the airfield.
Below the FW 190 A2 fighter-bomber (Lieutnant Leopold Wenger from 10./JG2 in mid-August 1942 :
The morane Saulnier MS 406 (pilot Rene Panhard of the french GC II/7 squadron in may 1940, with 5 victories)
I also made 2 vehicles from the 1940 period:
- A RAF Bedford QL, in 1/76, completely modified, the proposed Bedford Airfix was a post-WW2 version from 1946, with a blue and yellow livery which was never existing during the Second World War.
- A Luftwaffe tanker truck: the LG 3000 at 1/72. The choice of decoration was fixed on the LG 3000 from 4 / KG 54 which was stationed from July 27, 1940 to April 14, 1941 in St André de l'Eure (France).
Lastly, I also refurbished my old B17G from the 532nd Bomber Squadron of the 381st Bomber Group based in Ridgewell, England. Not having been able to find an image on the left side and of the possible Nose Art of the VE-H, I therefore modified the model to obtain the VE-O (registered 42-107112); It was the plane of Lieutenant David Morgan who with his crew had the chance to make 30 war missions without incident from June 1944 to December 1944 before returning to their country.
Till next time
Tit-mellil
