Thanks Shinpachi

Just finished this drawing of the M40A1 "ONTOS", we had four of these beauties in our amphibious group, I always wanted to draw one so here she is. She was also called "The Thing", and The "Pig". The M40A1 had six, 106 Recoilless Rifles, the ones we had had six 50 cal. spotter guns one on each rifle and a 50 cal. mounted between the recoilless rifles. She was greatly feared by the Viet Cong. There are only a handful left and maybe only two that are operational.

Thanks Eric, greatly appreciated. I'm trying to find places to try pan shots.

Thanks Aaron for the kind comments. The crew usually fired one rifle at a time. First fire the 50 cal spotter round, see where it hits then lock in the 106. Some crews were so good they could zero in the 106 before the spotter round hit the target.

By any chance, could the 106 Recoil-less rifles fire canister/buckshot rounds? I know their HE was pretty good, but 6 different barrels firing canister/buckshot at an NVA charge would probably obliterate everything!

Thanks all for your kind comments.

I guess Aaron your probably would not want to tick of an Arty. My brother in law was with a 105 Howitzer fire base in Nam, when he came back he could hardly hear. Hazards of being behind one of those things.

MaC. I can't say for sure, but they did fire the BeeHive round which could take out a lot of bush.

Thats affirmative Aaron, I have a fascination for this unique fighting machine. The "Ontos" was actually designated as a M50, the M40A1 is the recoilless Rifle.

Here are somemore shots taken at the, Planes of Fame Museum on saturday.
