Not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post this but here goes.

Just got my MIL Lavockin La 5 book which details the construction of the plane. Mostly plywood finish to both the wings , tail and fuselage, hence the steel plates on eachside under the cockpit for the hot exhaust gases.

So is it likely that there would be any paint flaking/chipping on the wooden surfaces? I would expect that the paint would just weather on certain prominent areas and that any flaking would be limited to the exposed metal areas.

Any thoughts

Roger

Most of wooden surfaces of Ła fighters were covered with canvas and then putty. Then these surfaces ( especially wings) were polished and painted. Thanks to the canves/putty primer paints sticked to the basis.
