It is very rare to see a Ki-45 Kai Tei (check the oblique cannons for this variant) with a painted nose. In this case the opening for the 38mm nose cannon looks enormous! I checked my books and I think I found the answer: it's not a hole in the nose, it's a darker paint around the hole.
