I remember reading in Barry Crump's 'Life and Times of a Good Keen Man' of him travelling through the Middle East in the '60s, and seeing new carpets laid out on the roads, so the traffic would wear them down and they could be sold as 'Antique' Persian Rugs.

No because the old antique tables were made from fully seasoned wood so do not warp and shrink
