When I was a kid (1943-1945), we lived on the Isle of Palms & on Myrtle Beach in SC, just outside Charleston. After a hurricane we found some of those "metal things" washed up on the beach.

My Dad was in Africa then; I was living with my Mother & Aunt then. My cousin and I pulled a hammerhead shark out of the surf and put it in our bath tub. Mother was not happy.
