Of interest is that historical records show that there was no love lost between Caesar and Brutus and there is no record that Caesar said anything after being stabbed.

The first reason for Brutus to hate Caesar was that there is some evidence that Brutus loved and was engaged to marry Caesars daughter Julia. Caesar broke it off to marry her to Emperor Pompey. She died in childbirth soon after.

Second was that Caesar was secretly bonking Brutus's mother and that came out during a Senate meeting when Brutus and his father (and others) demanded Caesar read out a message he had just received.

Third was that Caesar put a tax on money lenders and Brutus's family were the biggest money lenders.

Shakespeare was using poetic licence in his version.
