Before he died, in 1982, my grandfather was living with his wife and her mother. My dad loved him dearly. At his funeral, they sprinkled his ashes over the rose bushes in the cemetary, and someone said 'He was a thorn between two roses'. My dad just said 'Nope. He was a rose between two thorns.'
