Darn! Just got back from posting stuff to Jan and Igor and saw your PM!! I'll get the decals in the post tomorrow, and I'll include some prop stencils and others, if I have some spare. I'll post the pics of Gentile's kite here later tonight. At one time only the rear section of the spinner was red, with the front white, a 'left over' from the original ID markings, and the 'scroll' of victory markings changed too.

Got some, just need to know if I've got the right size for you...Terry, do you remember what you used them on, and could you measure them for me?

(Clashed with Terry's post!)

I can find some pics of Gentiles kite on the internet but if you have ones that are abit better for seeing markings etc that would be great would make getting the decals on.

If you want i could measure the size of the stars and bars on the transfers i ruined, it would save Terry a job. I'll post them in a few minutes when i find them!

Right just measured them, the bigger ones are 4 cm's in length the smaller ones 3 cm's in length, and they are blue and white in colour as shown in the attachment below.

Thanks Evan. The one's I have left are 'bomber' size, so too big for the P51. In fact, I had to use some USAF ones recently, and paint-out the red stripes! Sods law, soon as I'd used them, I found the 'missing' set!

Ok, I had a look, and looks like Wayne will have to come to the rescue after all, unfortunately...!

The closest I have to the 4 cm size you need is stars and bars in 3.65 and 4.4 cm, and in the case of the 3 cm ones I only have them in 2.9 and 3.15 cm.

Sorry about that... If these are still okay, you're most welcome to them of course, but I hope Wayne or someone will have exactly what you're after.

The 4.4 cm ones and the 3.15 cm ones will be perfect because the ones i needed at 3 cms were over 3 cm's anyway and the same goes for the 4 cm ones, so if i could have those that would be perfect!

I'll PM you now with my address, thanks very much!

OK, it's the wrong section, but rather than have you chasing around looking for it, here's the info on Capt. Don Gentile's P51B 'Shangri La'. BTW, his name is pronounced 'Jen Tilly'.
The Tamiya painting guide shows this aircraft with a white forward part to the spinner, and the decals include two of the 'scrolls' which show his victories, with different numbers of crosses on each. The attached profile is from the Osprey 'Mustang Aces of the 8th Air Force', and I believe it to beslightly incorrect, as it shows 22 victories. Don Gentile was officially credited with 21.83 aerial victories and, at that stage in the war, ground victories were not officially counted, or displayed on aircraft, so his ground'strafing 'kills' would not be shown. The total number of crosses painted on hsi aircraft was 21.
The colour pics show the Mustang with an all red spinner, and it is very possible that these pictures, taken by the USO/USAAF PRO, and from the USAF, were taken on the day the Press etc visted Debden, on 13th April 1944. They are certainly posed! But there's some useful detail in them you can maybe use.
The black and white shot of his crashed aircraft was taken the same day, after he had hit a low rise in the field, whilst doing a low, fast pass, in front of the Press, after his final mission before returning to the 'States.
The other black and white pic, of 'Shangri La' about to taxy from dispersal at Debden, (from USO) is dated 8th April, 1944, and again, this shows 21 victory markings, and the white-fronted spinner. It's possible that the white spinner was a temporary replacement, as it seems unusual to paint only the rear section and the nose band, along with the wheel rims. Before the red noses were adopted, the P51's wore the white I.D. nose bands and spinners, and it maybe that this was a spare, or was left off when the rest of the nose was painted. The colour pics show the paint to be new-looking, and other aircraft of the group also had all-red spinners, so it's anybody's guess, unless someone has a definite answer?
I've got a couple more colour shots, from different angles, but can't seem to locate the darned things!
Anyway, Capt. Gentile was originally a member of a RAF 'Eagle' Squadron, where he scored his first two victories on Spitfires, and the nose arton his Mustang is reputed to be the original design for an Eagle Sqaudron motif, designed by the Walt Disney studios.
I hope this helps, and the decals will be in the mail tomorrow (Friday).
Terry.

Thanks very much Terry i'm certainly intrigued about the spinner, i'm thinking i'm going to adopt a red spinner puely because aesthetically it's better.

Thanks for the decals, A4K has kindly offered me the stars and bars so i'll finally be able to start my P-51!

This is kinda off topic as it falls more into "Possible purchase" category...
Was thinking about Battle of Britain Group Build next year and about He 111 model which I would like to build and I found this Revell kit in 1/72 scale (see attachment). It's H-6 version so I'm not sure if it's appropriate for 1940 time frame. If this is indeed the case what are differences to earlier He 111Hs used in BoB? Would this kit need some major changes for conversion to earlier He 111H version?

No worries Adam, I'll get them off to you after work.

Terry, GREAT info mate!!! :D :D :D

Thanks Evan.
Igor, far as I know, you should be able to use the Revell kit straight out of the box. I' d have to check the exact specifications etc, but the H6, if it wasn't in the BoB, externally is the same as those which were, so very little, if any changes would be needed. Let me know neared the time, and I'll dig out some pics and profileds for you. I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of that for the BoB Group Build!!
And of course, I'm sure Guttorm (JU88A1) will be only too willing to help - he's got a 1/1 scale Heinkel to play with!!!
Just going off for a minute, if enough people participate in that GB, it could be possible, maybe, to model virtually every unit that took part in the Battle!

Thats a nice looking kit imalko i was lucky enough to purchase a 1:48 Heinkel He 111 H-4/H-6 made by Revell a couple of months ago i can't wait to build it the He111 is one of my favorite aircraft from WWII.

a quick question i was wondering what everyones opinion was on the model kits made by 21st century toys, it seems they make a few 32nd scale kits and i was wondering if anyone had made any and what they thought.

Iv'e got the Stuka and the Bf109F while they do no match the moulding quality of hasegawa kits they are pretty basic but not too bad at all, Terry has built a Bf109G14 version, find that build for a reference...hopefully someone can link to it for you...

thanks wayne i'll find Terry's build and have a look at that. To be honest the scale is probably just too big for me i'd have nowhere to put stuff like that really.

Imalko you might be interested in this or anyone else for that matter, i was just having a quick look on ebay and came across this, its a Revell Heinkel He111 H-4/H-6 in 48 scale for £23 which is pretty good considering how hard this is to find and how good the kit is.

That seems reasonable, but it's either just been re-released, or is about to be, at £16.99 !!! And bear in mind the seller will probably charge around £9 for shipping, which will cost him about £3 plus a bit of thin bubble wrap and brown paper!
I also saw on recently at a specialist dealer in OOP kits, for a very reasonable price, I think £19, plus £3.50 shipping.
