Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was a former slave who eventually gained her freedom. Trying to establish a business, she began making dresses for important women. She made dresses for the wife of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy and for the wife of Robert E. Lee. Eventually introduced to Mary Todd Lincoln, she became the First Lady's most trusted confidant.

Really remarkable woman!
