I'm off down to the Tin Tent again this coming weekend, just for seven days this time, then handing over to a friend for a couple of weeks, in exchange for him installing some extra electrical sockets.
Not sure if I'll get "out and about" much, but if I do, I'll post pics on my return.

Well, I didn't do much on my last visit to the Tin Tent, but I'm back in Norfolk again, having arrived on Saturday evening, a week later than originally planned, due to a number of issues.
I'll be here for two weeks, and I'm hoping to get out and about, possibly including a visit to RAF Lakenheath, to see what USAF F-15 action may be happening. But it depends on the weather, as it's hot (for the UK), and forecast to get hotter ( mid to high 30's C), which is a bit uncomfortable for moving around, especially as it was 16C and raining when I left home on Saturday afternoon.
If I'm able, I might also get to a couple of other interesting sites, and I'll post some pics if/when I do.

If I don't get to travel much, then do not despair, as Karl and I have some plans to (hopefully) get to two aviation museums at Manston, Kent (well known BoB airfield), in early September, when we might get to "fly" a Lancaster cockpit simulator, and, time permitting, a Spitfire cockpit simulator too ........... watch this space !

Shame your in the wrong corner of England Terry. I see they are advertising 30 minute flights in a duel Hurricane over at White Waltham, only £2,875 a pop.

Yep, my friend Max is considering having a flight. He's already flown the Grace Spitfire and the two-seat Buchon.
Forgot to mention - I saw a Spitfire fuselage on a truck on my journey here. It was partly sheeted over, but looked like either a Mk.IX or possibly a low-back Mk.XVI, in green/grey camouflage, with codes and roundels, and fully cowled engine. No prop or wings.
Only had a fleeting glimpse as it passed in the opposite direction, but good to see.

Any idea who that Spit belonged to?

Sorry, didn't get a good enough look at it, as I was driving in the opposite direction, on a twisty country road, so couldn't look for the full codes or serial number, which were partially hidden beneath the sheeting.

Due to the excessive heat here in the UK (currently 36c/96.8f and getting hotter at the Tin Tent), Government health warnings have been issued, advising to drink plenty of fluids - so I've stocked up with four cases of Abbot Ale, a 2 litre box of red wine, and a bottle of Famous Grouse !!

If the Government recommends plenty of liquids, who are we to argue?

One of the few times we should listen to government advice....

We had a 10 day stretch of those temperatures here too and it's uncomfortable for the majority of us here in town who up to now could not justify the expense of a/c. Now couple that with forest fire smoke and the inability to open windows, it's becoming an annual issue here that can't be ignored.

I'll up-date as and when I can when here for this visit. Hoping to get out and about when the weather cools a bit, before returning home on 25th August, and will be hopefully booking the Lanc and Spit sim "flights" this week, aiming to go to Manston on the 11th and 12th of September.
The plan is for Karl and I both to have a session on the Lanc, and Karl to have a session on the Spit. I very much doubt I'd be able to get into and out of a Spit cockpit these days, even with assistance, as there isn't a floor, and placement of feet, and hand holds, is important .But we'll see.
At least I got to (briefly) taxi a Mk.V Spit forty years ago, so that memory still remains.
After the sim sessions, we'll stay overnight at a very local hotel just 5 minutes from the airfield, and then visit the second Museum at Manston the following day, before returning to the Tin Tent in Norfolk and having a few (aka several) beers and a barby.
If all goes to plan, I should have some decent pics and narrative describing the visit and the very famous wartime airfield.

The Lanc and Spitfire cockpit simulators are now booked for Karl and I for Wednesday, 11th September, so we'll be travelling to Manston the day before, and staying overnight in an hotel just 5 minutes away from the museums.
I will, of course, post a full description of our "Flying", and the museums, along with suitable photos, once we return from the visit.

Latest news from the Tin Tent is bad and good.
The caravan suffered a potentially very dangerous fire hazard fault on Friday night, when the electrical hook-up cable plug and socket overheated and fried the input, knocking out all the power !
Fortunately, after "blowing", it cooled down and there was no fire, but of course I was then reliant on a torch and a couple of small camping lamps, and was unable to boil a kettle to have a coffee - had to have beer instead, it's a hard life !
However, the local caravan servicing technician arrived on Saturday morning, removed the damaged fittings, inspected everything, and fitted a new plug and socket, ensuring everything was secure and safe. He traced to source of the fault to a gouge in the hook-up cable, caused either by being gnawed by a squirrel or similar pest, or possibly being nicked by a garden strimmer, which eventually caused the short.
That's the bad news, and the only loss was some food in the fridge, and my weekly injection pen for this week's meds, which I can replace when I get home next weekend, as a day or two late in injecting won't be much of a problem.

The good news is, I will be replacing the current Tin Tent with a much newer caravan, in excellent, as new condition throughout, during the final week of this season at the end of September.
My "neighbour" on site needs to sell her 'van so, as mine is getting on in years, and could use some refurbishment here and there, I've decided to sell on or give away the current 34 year old example, and have agreed to buy the slightly smaller, but more than adequate van, which I can use from around 15th September, or maybe the following week, when I'll transfer all my bits and pieces and the external awning, before closing up on 4th October.

The weather here has cooled down a little now, being a very pleasant 25C at the moment, with sun and a few light whispy clouds, so I'm hoping to get over to Lakenheath one day this week, to see if there's any F-15 action.

Bad new and good news Terry. Glad your safe and only lost a few snags in the freezer. Great new about the new digs though, proper posh tin tent, you'll be fighting off the admirers when you move into this one!.

Thanks Vic, and yes, it's a nice one. Absolutely immaculate inside, with more modern fittings, cooker, hob etc, and I think the fridge is larger too.
I think it's either a 2004 or 2005 model, but you would think it just left the factory recently !
