This was in my news feed this morning:

(NEXSTAR) – The historic, 1.2 million-pound Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive will soon depart for the Western leg of its first-ever coast-to-coast tour, with new details about its Eastern journey being released last week.

Earlier this year, Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena announced that the massive engine would embark on the tour in honor of America's semiquincentennial (aka, its 250th anniversary).

The 133-foot-long locomotive, the only Big Boy to still travel the tracks, has made multiple well-attended tours since returning to service in 2019. No. 4014 is one of just a handful of remaining Big Boy engines that were built to haul heavy equipment during World War II.

Below are the cities that Big Boy plans to stop in, listed by state. Those marked with an asterisk (*) will not have public access, according to the locomotive's schedule. For dates, times, and additional stop details, visit Union Pacific's website.

CN 6519 August 1971 Jasper Alberta General Motors Diesel FP9A.jpg

A nasty scan from a slide shows me, my siblings and my mother in August 1971. Travelled from Toronto to Vancouver with old 6519 leading the way. A GMD FP9A, she was built in 1959. She left main line service on 31March1978 when VIA Rail took over CN's passenger operations. She was retired by VIA in 1989. In March 1995 she was sold to the Ohio Central Railroad but was never put into service and was scrapped shortly after. Photo was taken in Jasper Alberta.

Cheers

Jeff
