Here's my take on a Beech Staggerwing in USAAC service as a UC-43. The kit is another old AMT 1/48. Not a bad kit, for them!! The engine area needed to be back-dated/re-worked completely. Engine mount moved out a bit, different cowling (vac formed from mold I made). Cheek exhausts added from sheet styrene. Landing gear doors remade from card stock. Tail profile modified.

It's really pretty simple, if you have a vacuform. See my post on making one. All I did was find some dowl the right diameter drilled out the engine hole, sanded the edges real well, sealed the wood grain, then vac.
I'll post a how-to one of these days.
 
I noticed your post earlier but have only just read the full list of additions/mods you made to the AMT kit; most impressive.
