Trying to recall who's B-17 that is. It's very miss marked. And boy you weren't kidding when you said "girls" that's exactly what they are. Doubt several have made it out of high school!
The B-17 is "Sally B", based at Duxford, UK, and still in the markings applied for the "Memphis Belle" movie. The checker cowling is a later, personal addition by the owner, in memory of a loved one. (NOTE, in the movie the chin turret was removed, and other mods done, to make it look more like a B-17F).
