It good to not be talked down to. They are all specialist and know their job well. Most have been there over 10 years and talking about retirement soon. I think that most do not know more than their area of responsibility but they are efficient. They are surprised that I already know things like accounting, purchasing, and so much about medical billing. I made be stuck in admin and never move to a counselor role but I am ok with that for now. Just want to learn the job. Modern software. Three jobs over the past 9 years that used to same DOS based software. It works and is old as dirt. Everything had to be entered in strings and path codes. Really, it is the 21st century. Hope the new does not ware off. I think I may a good job now and not just pay the bills job. Drinks all round. :occasion5:

Got my first letter from my son at boot camp.
He needs to come to realize that a major purpose for all that spreading of feces is to instill a good , healthy, "Don't give a shit" attitude. By that I mean the ability to sort out the crap from the important stuff, 'cause I can assure him that NOBODY else in his chain of command is doing that.

Personal example from my USAF career: "There are six F-111D grounded that need to deploy to Korea because the commies killed some US Army officers and we may have to go to war but your 'primary duty until completed' is to investigate the loss of a MA-1 flight jacket by an Airman in a different unit."

I've done my best to explain the reasoning behind basic to him, and I know he understands it intellectually. He's having a hard problem with the lack of sleep. Other than that, he reports that physically it's not too difficult.

What's getting to him is the mental thing. He misses his family.

I got a letter from him yesterday and he's got me a little worried. He wrote that he's "sad", which is to me an odd word to describe BMT. We're doing the only thing we can, giving him support through writing.

My mom and I will be having dinner with his girlfriend tonight. She's bringing over her Polaroid and we'll send him pics.
