I have started with the camo finally after a far amount of reading the general consensus no one can claim the actual colors for the camo beyond a guess(1) it was very early in the conflict(2) many maritine records relating to the exact colors used were either lost or destroyed after the war.I did read were in the 50-60's that some started to make there way back to Germany but are not entirely full documents. So I looked at many fotos of the Graf Spee and have settled upon RLM colors for they would of been plentiful at the time and from my readings the Kriegsmarine were doing shades of slightly different in hues and figured what better than RLM The colors for the the camo were settled upon RLM 61 and RLM 02 for they ever so slightly hint at undertone of green's.I hope the logic makes sense and that fellow members may approve. One other thing if anyone has the program on there computer I think it's called "grayscale" and do one of the color photos of the turret to B+W and lets compare to the orginal.Cheers Kevin
Kevin, got your Pm and did the color change, But so you understand if you are trying to do comparisons, even with B/W there can be shade differences. I did one several times differently so you can see what I mean. Looks like you need to throw a light grey camo across the conning tower.
Thks Chris and I think came awful close in my guess.I have been working alot on the RLM 02 on the SS and alittle more on the front turret I missed earlier.I may ask you to do this again when she is finished if you do not mind.Thks Again Cheers
Chris BW just looking at tone and hue variations on the front turret only part of ship with RLM 02
Did a lot of talking about my 1/48 B-29, so food is cooking and nothing to do so back to work on the model. God willing and the creek don't rise maybe by 2011
An excellent question and I have no idea at present. I wanted to get rid of all those silly family pics on the mantle but that idea got vetoed real quick. in the backround is my computer corner which takes up about 1/3 the room. there is a large top shelf where i have modems and my 1/16 Abrams tank. if i move the tank and there is enough room under the wings maybe there. all my WWII and Vietnam aircraft are 1/48 and I hate to break scale. If all else fails monofilament from the ceiling
I always toyed with the idea of my larger planes somehow mounting them on 1/4 sheet plywood and hanging it like a picture. Not sure how you could do this large on though. Great job so far though!
Well I continue plod along on this with alot coming together today.I still have a (3)PE MG's to build and (3) cable reels.I think once I get those finished it's onto the rigging saving the outboard railing for last.Thks for looking and appreciate any and all comments. Cheers
damn fine work on that camo, javlin! I also like how you did the wooden deck.
Well, in the past few days, I've forced myself to work on the 737. lol I masked off the entire top of the fuselage, airbrushed the wings, engines, and bottom of the fuselage...once that was dried and cured, I masked off almost the rest of the fuselage, cos i had to apply a coat of natural metal....once that was done, I carefully peeled off the masking tape and let it sit for the night...then today, I started on detail work ALL DAY. I first worked on the main and nose gear bays. (I finished off the main gear bay as it was already mostly done and covered) then I started work on the nav/strobe lights and rotating beacons. I then started work on the engines...I looked at a bunch of ref photos for the General Electric CFM56-7 for the 737NG paid special attention to the inside of the cowling and fan blades. after i was finished with that i then applied natural metal to the leading edges of the engine cowlings. (the natural metal is actually chrome silver, but it works just as well) so after that was dried, I then proceeded to assemble the landing gear to the aircraft. it's now standing up on its own...that twist tie you see and the end of the aircraft is something that'll be supporting it as I apply a coat of Future Floor Shine to the aircraft. then comes the decals....
Thks Wayne now don't make come over there and beat your arse
