The B-24J Liberator is the well-known "Dragon and his Tail" and the B-17G is "Bit-o-Lace" with Milt Caniff's art work (Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon) of Miss Lace
 
With a new year coming the B-29 is 99% finished. Some touch up work and decals.
did the tail first using Future and Microsol. I'm very pleased with the result. think I should use another coat of microsol?

It looks great Mike, and it appears that the decals have settled into the panel lines well, from what I can see.
If the decals have been on for some time now, another coat might make them lift slightly, but if they have Future over the top, it won't have any effect, as the Future will have sealed them. However, if you think they haven't settled fully into the 'grooves', and aren't 'Futured', then press them gently with a soft cloth, and try a small amount of 'Sol, just along the lines, and leave to set. Don't overdo it though, as the 'Sol can sometimes stain the metallic finish.
 
1/48 Tamiya lancaster which I got a few weeks ago (no pictures, yes I know it's a sad day). I thought at a price of $80 and the beloved tamiya stamp this kit would be the bees knees but it's turning out to build like a classic monogram $20 kit. Maybe the kit is perfect and i'm just becoming one of the guys with OCD attention to seams and detail.
 
Thanks Guys, Airframes, think I'll just leave well enough alone. I did what you advised, future first, dry 24 hrs, Microsol down first, then decal, then Microsol over the top of the decal and let dry. the decals look 200% better than what I usually get with decls over flat paints. Have not put anything over the top of the decals yet. was going to get all the decals on first then a coating of clear flat over everything
 
Airframes, according to the Tamiya XF-16 the finish is flat aluminum and the clear I have is Model Master 4636 flat clear acryl. Don't recall seeing a semi-gloss clear
 
I understand - just that a matt clear coat over the aluminium finish will really make it dull.
I normally make my clear finishes - matt, semi-matt, semi gloss - by mixing Tamiya Flat Base with Future, to obtain the desired finish. You could try mixing a little Future with the matt varnish, but test it on some scrap first. Either that, or just coat the decalled areas only, avoiding the 'metal', with the exiting varnish.
 
I give you the toil of my holiday break.. 9 days until I go back to college. Can I get it done?

Still have some little seam issues on the top of the engine nacelles but everything else is fit at the moment.

Aye she is in both manners Kevin! Just got the primer check and to many graces she needs little seam repairs..
 
very nice Maglar, I was doing really well with seams matching up until I got to the fuselage where trying to match up top and bottom was almost impossible. I'm still working on the bottom seam.
Airframes, thanks, I'll check with the HS tomorrow for the base coat or a semi-gloss/satin clear. If they have the flat base what would you suggest as a mix ratio? 75 future:25 base?
