On the B-29? She's a beast and looks the work load, but you're doing an honorable favor on her. I have the very kit back in my dorm room and was going to build it over break but I got the lanc and decided on that. Not to mention all of that aluminum, might have sprayed canned it if I built it.

Seams are starting to simmer out as I noticed if the scalpel is used to level the two fuselage pieces it makes for a quick and tidy repair, but some of them always creep their way through!

I used an airbrush and painted all the outer pieces first. requires some touch-up afterward but 95% is good to go. Biggest change for me was learning how to do decals correctly and Switcha's idea to open up the fuselage to see the interior detail

Decals on an aluminum finish is always a pain.. it's a drudge that some beautiful nose art decals are on aluminum finishes and sometimes I muff them. Learned to use the a metalizer sealer then future, so what if the finish goes dull.. silver is silver!

Real aluminum is never "shiney" unless it is overcoated. Al is too reactive and quickly oxidizes into a grayish-white so the flat Aluninum is pretty realistic and the microsol makes the decals look "painted" on

Mike, you'll need to mix and experiment with the Flat Base and Future, Start at around 25 %, and test it by painting onto a piece of scrap. After around 15 minutes, it should show how it will look.
If it is too glossy, add a touch more Flat Base, and so on, but always ensure it is stirred-in and mixed thoroughly, and again before use.
If too much of the FB is added, the absolutely flat result will also show a dusty white deposit - this can be rectified in the mix by adding a touch more Future, but make sure you identify this before using the mix on a model.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but it's one of those things which can only be ascertained each time the mix is formulated.

Airframes, thanks, This at least gives me a starting point for mixing and some idea of a possible problem that might rersult. Decals are just about all on and I could not be more pleased. that Microsol makes all the difference. I have to look really, really close to see the decal edge and once everything is overpainted I think that will vanish. I'm going to try to get a better camera and get better close-up. Can't begin to thank you for the info

Not quite, the scheme I'm doing is visible on the right hand side of the instruction sheet in the photos. The scheme is a wing CO's personal a/c, so there is plenty more decal work to be done before the gear goes on. There's a boatload of stencils too. I won't be adding any external stores however, except maybe drop tanks, depending on how well the decals go on them.

Got to do the camo on the wings then touch-ups from the notorious overspray. Coat of future on to protect the paint from masking mishaps and my fingers.

well, I've applied primer to the Spirit of St. Louis. I'm going to leave the nose off until final assembly as seams on the nose will not be visible due to decals covering them up. Primer was also slapped on the Nieuport 11. I may just hand paint this one because it'll be too difficult switching back and forth through colors on the airbrush.

by the way, guys. if y'all ever decide to do an airliner group build. whether it be modern jetliners, or the piston propliners of yesteryear, or even early jetliners, PLEASE contact me so I can toss mine in. heh
