they're gray. I've got other small details to do once the paint cures
 
oh, painting went TONS smoother this time. there was a rubber washer missing from the new airbrush. so I took the washer from the old one and put it in the new one. condensation has become a smaller problem. I can take apart the part that creates condensation and clean it. here's what it looks like

Yep, I agree. I think that what is showing as light grey on the other model, could possibly be representing un-polished aluminium, of a different grade. It seems a bit odd, on the real aircraft, to only paint part of the wing, unless it was to hide, or protect from, exhaust staining.

Enjoying some well deserved 'me-time' after after running the gauntlet (so to speak) of gradiation for the last couple of weeks (succesfully I might add :) ) I've been locking myself up in my man cave for the last couple of days and have been working on the Eduard 1/48 Bf-110E. I'm not quite sure which mount I want to turn it into, but at this point I've narrowed it down to one of Wolfgang Falcks Bf-110E's (G9+GA or G9+AA) or the mount of II.NJG.1 Gruppen Kommandeur Walther Ehle (<< G9+AC) in terms of kill ratio perhaps not the most well known of the Nachtjagd Experten, but interesting nonetheless since he was one of the Luftwaffe´s longest serving Gruppen Kommandeure ever leading II.NJG.1 from October ´40 until November ´43.

I've wondered why those areas are gray as well. the same thing is seen on later Douglas props like the DC-4, 6, and 7.

and it's not gonna be polished aluminum, just regular model master aluminum. I'm just gonna dry-brush it.

Rob, the port wing does look Light Grey in that photo, but the starboard does appear to be Ali as terry said - always amazing how deceitful various light effects are!
I suspect he maybe went for a dissimilar panel effect here, although (re the 'Grey') when I've flown in airliners, have noticed that different sections are different colours, inner sections often one or two grey tones, extremes and movable sections ali. Will see if I have a pic here to show.

Small point, but the Mistel S3A was a Fw 190A-6/ Ju 88A-6 combination, the 'S3A' exhiited at Farnborough in 1946 appears to be an Fw 190A-8/ Ju 88A-6 combo however.

According to 'Mistel' by Hans-Peter Dabrowski, Schulmistel designations were as follows:

S1 - Bf 109F/ Ju 88A-4
S2 - Fw 190A-8/ Ju 88G-1
S3A - Fw 190A-6/ Ju 88A-6
S3C - Fw 190F-8/ Ju 88H-2

Don't forget to add the extra instrumentation for the Ju 88 engines in the 190 too! (have pics if you need them)
