Thanks guys, I'm glad you all enjoyed the pics. Our day trip ended with a detour to a small town called Lowood. During the war the airfield here was occupied by several RAAF Vengeance squadrons before and after deployment to New Guinea. RAAF Anson and Beaufort squadrons also flew many anti-sub patrols from this base. In early 1942 Lowood was also home to the American 80th FS equipped with P-39's, AA protection was also provided by an American Artillery Battalion.
Unfortunately little remains of the airfield today, however the site isremembered with a simple marker.

Took the family out for a bit of a drive this afternoon to two of the nearby dams, it was a bleak day so the pictures really don't do justice to the beauty of the landscapes around here.
First up was Lake Moogerah, a spot we often bring the kids for picnics.

Next stop was Wyaralong Dam which is also close to home. This Dam was only built in the last couple of years and as can be seen, this area has a WWII connection. The kids love the Eagle sculpture BTW

Been awhile since I posted in this thread, so I thought I would share some pictures of the rainforest at Mt Tamborine. We're lucky in that this is only 20 minutes away so we often come up here on weekends to take in the magical scenery.
