i don't think the tape was to keep the rigging tight but more to cover over the sharp edges of the rigging as they used these as an early troop drop aircraft with the troops sitting out on the wings in a narrow seat.

i'm beginning to question the line drawing/ photos and colour card picture i have as if you look at the film footage it doesn't show this tapeing at all
