Those scores really are not much. They played Luxembourg and San Marino. They are not really good teams and are made up of average joes like you and me. Germany beat Luxembourg 11-1 the last time and they beat San Marino 13-0 the last time.

There are 9 slots left to be qualified for.

The Following teams from Europe have qualified for the European playoff rounds for the final 4 Euro slots in the World Cup which will be played in November:

Portugal
Greece
Slovenia
Russia
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Ukraine
France
Republic of Ireland

Bahrain and New Zealand still have to play in November one more time for a slot in the World Cup. The last game was tied 0-0.

Costa Rica and Uruguay will play in a two legged play off for a slot in the World Cup.

Bit weird seeing France in there...

Not really. France typically has never been really reallly really successful. Yeah they have won the World Cup a few times, but overall they have not been as successful internationally such as teams like Brazil, Italy and Germany. For instance at the Euro 2008 they did not even make it out of the group stage.

They are still a good team though, and I hope they progress to the World Cup. I would rather see them in it than Italy (they all ready qualified though...).

The drawing has taken place for the playoff leg of the European groups. The top 8 2nd place teams will compete in a 2 leg playoff for the final 4 spots. Each team will play a home and away game against each other, with the games taking place Nov. 14 and Nov. 18, 2009. Here are the opponents.

Republic of Ireland - France
Russia - Slovenia
Greece - Ukraine
Portugal - Bosnia-Herzegovina

Germany has canceled the game against Chili this coming Saturday due to goal keeper Robert Enke committing suicide on Tuesday.
