Fifty bucks for that 1/48 P-47B. In 1945 fifty bucks would have got you the pick of the litter. What'll it be, a P-47 or a P-40....

A friend of mine who was working at Cape Canaveral in the late 50's said he took a trip to a junkyard over in SW Florida back then and there were P-40's stacked up just like that. And in 1955 the USN phased out the F8F and sold them for $500 each. In that same timeframe a man went to an auction at Tinker AFB and bought several P-47N, sold the fuel that was in them and that paid for the cost of the airplanes.
