Sorry above message should read: Talked to Jim Lacey many times about his aircraft. It was green/brown, and he had the white bands on the wings, tailplanes and fin over-painted in the camo colours.
 
The white theatre ID bands didn't appear until 1945, by which time the re-painting in Dark Earth had ceased, as operations had moved from the 'jungle' areas, and it was thought the effort not worthwhile. When I asked James about his aircraft, back in 1982 or '83, he said that the bands weren't on the Dark Green/Dark Earth Spit, which, at that period, they wouldn't be.
Those aircraft (Spit VIII and XIV and Hurricanes) still in green/earth when the bands were introduced had them added, and they were also applied to aircraft coming from the MUs in India which retained the green/grey Temperate scheme.
