I went out on the Creeper Trail today and had a very pleasant experience. I had been taking photos for about thirty minutes when I saw what I thought at first was a large fish, but then I saw it had legs. It was a Hellbender or Mudpuppy. It was about 12" in length and not ever having seen one in the wild, I put my camera equipment down on the bank and waded out and picked up out from under the rock it was hiding under. Needless to say.............................................they are quick. No sooner than I thought I had control of it, and you can't manhandle them or you'll injure them, it jumped up flailed around and back into the water it went. I did not get a full photo of it but I found one on the internet. The last photo, it is in the middle of the shot, but you can't tell what you are looking at so. Here's what I got today.

'Creeper'? Can't help but think of the old Norfolk Western and their 'Virginia Creeper', is that somewhere in the area?

That is it Jan. The Virginia Creeper Trail is the old N&W rail line.

Nice shots Aaron and as I have mentioned before, either in photos or in real life, I can stare at a stream forever. Might stem from when I was young, having a creek run through our farm and a river a mile away. Spent hours there fishing.

I spent some time around Light Milling which is at the head of the Va. Creeper Trail here in Abingdon, Va., and took a few photos. I practicing. I need it.
