I went out on the Creeper Trail today and had a very pleasant experience. I had been taking photos for about thirty minutes when I saw what I thought at first was a large fish, but then I saw it had legs. It was a Hellbender or Mudpuppy. It was about 12" in length and not ever having seen one in the wild, I put my camera equipment down on the bank and waded out and picked up out from under the rock it was hiding under. Needless to say.............................................they are quick. No sooner than I thought I had control of it, and you can't manhandle them or you'll injure them, it jumped up flailed around and back into the water it went. I did not get a full photo of it but I found one on the internet. The last photo, it is in the middle of the shot, but you can't tell what you are looking at so. Here's what I got today.

Great nature and great discovery, Aaron! :)
I have ever seen a big one in the pond of mountain park too.
I felt ancient times and nothing seemed changed there.

Thank you Shinpachi. I wish I could have gotten a photo of it but it was not meant to be.:(

Beautiful area, thanks for sharing those shots!

You are quite welcome Dave. I have needed to get out for quite a while and it was in the 70s yesterday so.:)

Damn nice shots Aaron...

Thank you Wayne.

Nice shots Aaron and as I have mentioned before, either in photos or in real life, I can stare at a stream forever. Might stem from when I was young, having a creek run through our farm and a river a mile away. Spent hours there fishing.

I spent some time around Light Milling which is at the head of the Va. Creeper Trail here in Abingdon, Va., and took a few photos. I practicing. I need it.
