Just seen this.

We all know Wiki is dodgy but it's interesting the CIA are using it rubbish Iran. Perhaps more surprising is that the vatican is protecting the reputation of Gerry Adams of the Sinn Fein.

Seems you can't trust anyone nowadays!!

BBC NEWS | Technology | Wikipedia 'shows CIA page edits'

An online tool that claims to reveal the identity of organisations that edit Wikipedia pages has revealed that the CIA was involved in editing entries.
Wikipedia Scanner allegedly shows that workers on the agency's computers made edits to the page of Iran's president.

It also purportedly shows that the Vatican has edited entries about Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.

Gerry Adams was not charged and convicted of anything for the crime, right? So what's the big deal with that one? Everyone always loves to take a swing at the Catholic Church - it doesn't matter for what reason. Not saying he was a saint, as he was the Provos top dog. But, don't you think the authorities would have nailed him to a wall and built a case in the past 30 years since then regarding it?

Besides, even if the changed was initiated through a Vatican computer by an individual - does that really mean official Papal policy???

Everyone knows the shortcomings and limitations of wiki.

Not commenting at all on Adam's involvement in terrorism (direct or just political? I vote direct, but I think he was seen as a useful conduit so left alone) just on the fact it was a vatican (rather than Sinn Fein) computer used to make the changes.

The Catholic Church does the same thing to everyone else.

The Catholic Church preaches how it is only the "True" Church and that other religions including Protestant Christian Religions are not real.

Thats Bull!!!

Basically according to the Catholic Church because I am a Protestant Lutheran I am not a true believer.

I just got done reading a magazine from the Catholic Church called "Envoy" at work today and among saying that the Catholic Church is the only True Chuch it also said that getting Tattooed is a sin....

...Well I guess I am going to hell then according to the Catholics.

Adler - you're going a bit far on this, and you're taking cheap shots here too. I know you don't generally hesitate to show disdain for the Catholic Church. First off, just for committing a sin, you don't go to hell. That's a whole theological discussion in itself (as other Christians don't believe there's a distinction between types of sin), as the Catholic Church has different types of sin, ie mortal/venial. The Bible and Jesus' teachings make that perfectly clear. I haven't had a priest raise concern for my soul because I have a tattoo.

The Catholic Church does believe in ONE Christian Church - hence the term Catholic. You're right about that. There's many reasons for that, and it is a whole other discussion in itself - not related to this thread. Where do you get your information that says a non-Catholic Christian cannot be a "true believer" in Christ... whatever you mean by that term.

No offense to the arguement but all religions think they are "The one". Don't know any religion that preaches "We're number 2, right after the Muslims/Jews/Christians/Hindus".

Ya' know, what's the point in being a religion if your salvation is less (officially and unoffically) effective than the other guy.

Wiki can be edited by anyone right? Aren't the CIA and The Vatican "anyone" also?
Libtards have been using skewed "WeeWeePeePee" entries to back up their own socialist agenda. Why are they angry when others do the same?

This is why I try to avoid "WeeWeePeePee".

Yeah I overdid it a bit. Mostly out of fun. I dont feel I was taking cheap shots though. I will admit it I dont like the Catholic Church. I am a Christian but I do not like the Catholic Church.

Hell my wife who is Catholic no longer wants anything to do with the Catholic Church. She still is a Christian and believes in the Bible and Jesus but she says she is turned off by the Catholic Church's ways.

Read the latest edition of Envoy Magazine (A Catholic printing)...

Is this post also available in English?

At least you are a straight shooter, Adler. I have to respect that. I'm not sure which particular article you are referring to in that magazine - I've never heard of it before. I'm not sure what's in it, but the Catholic doctrine does not state that a non-Catholic Christian is not an actual and true believer in Christ. I do not know why you believe that.

Back to the article, my point was that a change being made from a computer owned by an entity does not necessarily mean that entity approves as such.

You have a good point Tim. What religion espouses a set of beliefs, but also throws in that they're wrong and another set of beliefs may actually be right!? That would defy logic!

Uhhuh - what the heck is weeweepeepee???

In our local papers here they say edits on wiki have emminated from our Gov't computers also but these seem to be indviduals using gov't computers as opposed to the chumps running the gov't

ENVOY magazine is back! Get a free issue!

I checked out several web sites including some on The Envoy Institute of Belmont Abbey College and it comes down to this: 1) Patrick Madrid the editor of this Envoy mag. is an author and "Apologetic" He is Not an official of the Catholic Church and his magazine is NOT a church authorized publication (meaning it does not speak for the Catholic Church nor is it an instrument of the Vatican). 2) The Envoy Institute web site is not up and running as of tonight so I don't know anything about it for sure but from what I've garnered from a Catholic web site / forum I came across I get the impression this Patrick Madrid is an evangelist type (READ- Right Wing). They send me over the top! Pat Robertson especially. I lived just down the road from his complex in Virginia Beach,VA.

Well if that is the case, I will take back some of my words.

I will tell you though that magazine scared me. The things that I read in it reminded me of a Christian version of a Extreme Islamic group.

You know Adler - there is a group of Catholics that have broken away from the Vatican, rejecting Vatican II and basically consider the Catholic Church under Rome as illegitimate. They even elected their own pope I believe. It sounds like a lot of the things you say that scare you are some of the items that they have issue with regarding the course the Vatican has taken. They still call themselves the catholic church also, which probably confuses people that aren't aware of their separation.

The Catholic Church, I think, is one of the most misunderstood organizations in the whole world. People think we worship the Pope, worship Mary, think all go to hell except Catholics. You name it, and there are people out there that swear it's true.

But Doug is right - there is a big difference between what a magazine written by a Catholic says and what the actual teachings and dogma of the Church are.

That "Catholic Forum" I mentioned had me wondering about the mag. The general consensus of the group was all for the mag. Evidently it was published for several years and then three years ago stopped due to funding. Now it's being restarted and by the same guy. Unforunately there are "fring groups" even in the Catholic Church. The real scary part is that no matter how much you talk to these people and try to convince them through logical argument and reason that their viewpoint is skewed you won't get through to them. Their tunnel vision is absolutely amazing!

Don't get me started on religon....
I am an athiest. Period....
With wikipedia being edited what is the big fuss over.. I am in secondary school and everyone knows wiki is bogus. If you want to hand in a piece of assessment the teachers recommend that you do not use wiki. Besides if someone wasts info on something they should have numerous sources that all collaborate and then they know it is probably the truth....
However this is besides the point editing pages like that is wrong we live in a free society and should be allowed to access whatever material we like.....
