This is where it sat last night, I have since attached the main wing root area to the fuselage and added the horizontal stabilizers. Next up is assembling the landing gear I think, before I work on painting the engine.

Thanks John!

Just a small update. Been working, but not a ton to show pictures of at this exact moment, as the wings are covered in tape. My one and only gripe about this kit is that the wings fit WAY too tightly over the spars, so the spars require extensive sanding. And of course, during test fitting, one of the wings got stuck and the spar busted, so now with a lot of glue that wing is on. I just hope it has something resembling strength or I'm totally screwed...

It's held overnight so it should be ok. Lots of that plastic weld. It actually has a nicer fit than the wing on properly, go figure.

Last night I spent some time working on the cowling flap wiring. It's far from perfect, but I think once it's painted and mounted, it'll look good. You'll hardly be able to see it, but it adds a little bit.

Here's a general idea of where I'm at. I'll be following this method of painting, so we'll see how it goes. I'm trying to decide between Alclad or just regular silver paint for the base aluminum. I've used Alclad once before and it failed, but that was many moons ago. The wing join looks pretty rough, but it's pretty much smooth. The black base coat will show what needs to be fixed.

Nice work Cory. And i agree about the cowling flap detail. You will hardly see it. Then there's Mal Bedford who has gone nuts doing this on his F4U-1A over on Large Scale Planes. The guy even fashioned the cowl flaps springs from a jig he personally made. It is some beautiful work.
