In 1939 the 27th Pursuit Squadron flew specially camouflaged P-36Cs at the Cleveland National Air Races. The camouflage was temporary water soluble paint and each aircraft had a unique pattern. All national insignia was covered up leaving only the squadron emblems and tail numbers visible. The aircraft I modeled was that of the unit commander. The P-36 at the Air Force Museum use to be painted as that aircraft and I used pictures I had taken of it as a reference. Unfortunately there were parts of it that I did not at the time have photos of, so some of the camo pattern I did was guesswork that turned out to be not entirely correct as I found out later when I found more pictures of the original aircraft. I made the model many years ago and it was one of my first attempts at masked camouflage with an airbrush. I didn't do anything with the panel lines or any weathering, and It seems to cry out for both. Maybe I'll add it someday.
I've just gone back and looked at the whole post for this build.
Sometimes I just don't take the time to Really look. But I did this time.
A fine build Glenn.
