Isn't MMI Monogram Models Incorporated?- John

The original role of the CF-104 was tactical recon or nuclear strike, up to 1972. In these roles, the gun was not fitted, although the external blister was still present, with the gun port faired over, as on my model below.
When the nuclear strike role was discontinued, post 1972 the gun was fitted, but I haven't seen any evidence of the shell ejector chute.
The book shown below is well worth getting - soft back, 148 pages, packed with a wealth of info, photos, drawings and charts.
If you can't get it, and need any info from it, let me know and I'll scan the relevant sections / pics etc.

The original USAF F-104A's did not have the gun and had a fuel cell in it's place. These were ADC interceptors and wanted to have extra fuel for intercepts. Guns were reintroduced to the A's latter in their life also.

Test driving the wing tip tanks to the wings tips.

Why the grey tanks you ask? Well sir, I built the yellow tanks according to the instructions (note the instructions) and couldn't get the tanks to sit properly on the wings. No matter how I twisted the tanks they would sit lop-sided and if if butted them up against the wing the tank would sit out too far.

I snipped off the lugs and got a very nice fit and looking at plans the tanks now fit correctly to the wings. The photo in the other single seat build shows no tanks so that's the way I'll model it
