I'm up in Austin at Dale's waiting for my son to be released from his deployment to Kuwait with the Army. Before I left I had gotten some more done.
First I cut off the pitot and drilled out the mount to take the replacement boom.
Pretty small drilling needed here. I bought a small pin vice and drill bits for this. Tapped a .5 mm and followed with a .8mm.
Next I masked the leading edge to paint the nose cone.
Well got home from Dale's place bringing my son home after a nine month deployment to the Mid East.
So good to have him back home.
I mixed up some oil based burnt umber for a wash on the MiG. I also painted up pylons and fuel tank. Nice garden don't yeah think.
I then did PLing using the wash. At the base level I like it, let's see what it looks like when I clean it later today. Only one side of the bottom has been done as yet.
The kit calls for H26 for the nose. I used testers green in the 1/4oz bottle. it's the same stuff I use for US O2 bottles. I think it might be a bit bright but I might try something a bit darker.
First welcome back to your son. He looks in great shape. Hope he has a pleasant leave of duty. Second i like the mig21. Make it a good one. I will be following this build.
Thanks Geo. And to everyone. Loving the kit in spite of a couple of minor issues. I ordered a Brassin seat for is after I could not find some of the parts. It's like 20 some parts. But I think I may have just found the missing parts. There's a family of six or eight living in on and or around my work bench and they are always borrowing parts.
