Semi-gloss Sea Blue is on; the flash has lightened it up and it is closer to the chip. The semi-gloss coat will darken it more. I used Replikator's formula: XF-17, XF-8, XF-53 - 6/6/1. The arrows are pointing at what Wojtek referenced to a few posts up; the leading edges of the flaps would have been blue to facilitate final painting and can be seen in one of the photos earlier in the thread

  • Bad news - even though I masked the crap out of the model I got over-spray
  • Good news - I anticipated getting some so I gloss coated the upper surface of the model and thought I could use IPA to remove said over-spray
  • Bad news - it just smeared the over-spray around and started removing the YZC
  • Good news - masking for the over-spray will be easy
  • Bad new - I can't remember the mix for YZC; either 6/1 or 5/1 with light grey but I'm leaning to 6/1
Having said all that, do you think I need to flat-coat the gloss to get an even coverage with the respray or will I be able to just spray over the gloss?

Idea, make notes on direction sheets of color mixes!
I gotta say tho, it's a brilliant idea for a build, "under construction"!
And................... the Corsair is ideal! Great work onner, keep it up.

Respray was successful. I did the whole thing though it wasn't necessary. Not sure why the rudder is so dark, its the same colour as the wing on the left

I started to put Tamiya Semi-gloss Clear on the flap but noticed it was starting to remove paint. This has happened with the gloss before as well. Heading to PG and going to look for other sources. Winsor & Newton makes a satin clear and I really like the matte version

Thanks guys. OK.....I've pretty much repainted the whole model. I didn't like the Intermediate Blue and found another mix in a PDF I had buried in a folder called "Stuff I Downloaded and will Sort Out Later". Its been there for two years. Anyhoo....the new version
