On 18 November 1943 Walter Ehle's Bf-110 crashed near St. Trond, Belgium. As he was landing his airfield lights were extinguished; his aircraft crashed and he and his crew, Ofw. Leidenbach (Bordfunker—radio/wireless operator) and Uffz. Derlitzky (Bordschütze—aerial gunner), perished.

Major Ehle was awarded the Knight's Cross on 29 August after 31 victories and at the time of his death he was credited with 39. He shot down a total of 38 enemy aircraft of which 35 were at night.

Yes I read that too. But the generator cooling small scope on the MG bulge and the area at the crank slot with the small bulged cover of the larger oil pump below indicate the trop variant. So G-5 or 6 trop with the Erla Haube? It sounds quite strange doesn't it ? What is more the non retracted tail wheel and the bottom shape of the rudder that seems to be the taller one may indicate one of the G-14 rebuilt from the early G-6s. Certainly I may be wrong because the G-6 of the configuration were assembled as well. However the serial number seen at the bottom of the rudder that seems to start either with 760 or 756 can be assiociated with both G-6 and G-14 variants. Also its location isn't the standard one.

PS.. I don't know why, but the kite smells the Hungary to me.

Heinz Bretnutz of II./JG 53. He is credited with shooting down Nicholson of 249 Squadron on 16th August 1940, the mission when Nicholson got the VC for shooting down a Bf 110 - didn't happen, as no Bf 110s were lost or damaged at that time, in that area, on that day.
