Destroyer Operational Clasp MIA 8 October, 1943 in Werk # 120010 off Ushant, west of Brest; shot down by Spitfires of RAF No. 453 Squadron. Both crew MIA. In the Spring of 43, he took the Sq. to Brest from where difficult missions were flown over the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay. He was also credited with 12 Tanks destroyed. All his aerial victories were over Russia. His first known Soviet victory, two MiG-3s on 30 October, 1942. A MiG-3 on 31 October, 1942. A MiG-3 on 1 November, 1942. An I-16 Rata on 5 November, 1942. An La-5 on 18 December, 1942. His plane was painted like a real fancy/colorful bug! Added: Their ac crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. His R/O was Ofw Helmuth Bitterling, also MIA (D.Drury).

On the starboard nacelle, that appears to be a trop filter on the supercharger. The port is not quite the same. Do you think that is a trop filter on the starboard? The nacelle instruments are clear forward of the intake. Here is a set from the Me410 DB603.

On the starboard nacelle, that appears to be a trop filter on the supercharger. The port is not quite the same. Do you think that is a trop filter on the starboard? The nacelle instruments are clear forward of the intake. Here is a set from the Me410 DB603.

Looks like that is a trop filter, starboard side. It was not uncommon for Bf 110s of SKG 210 & ZG 1 on the Russian Front to be fitted with trop filters due to the dry,dusty, conditions in the summer months.

EP (1/5/42), Dive Bomber Operational Clasp w/Pendant KilledInAction (KIA) 20 May, 1944 during level flight 3 km southeast of Koshnitsa, Romania (today called Cosnita, Moldova), probably by ground fire. He crashed and burned, along with his R/O of 800 missions, Ofw Hans Kanhor (Nom. for the RK). Otte flew 1179 missions as fighter, destroyer and dive bomber pilot. Added: Maj Otte's remains have not been transferred to a military cemetery, but a grave is believed to exist at Cosnita, Moldova. He is commemorated in the German War Cem. at Chisinau, Moldova (D.Drury).

A 2nd, a A Lancaster I of RAF No. 97 Sq. at Maurage (Hainaut), 7 km NW of Binche Belgium, the night of 28-29 August, 1942, now an Oblt. A 3rd, a Halifax 3 km north of Guise on 17 April, 1943. Alternate spelling: Brandstätter (Chorley). Author Chorley identified him as Adolf, whereas the OKL reported his name as Eugen.
