The Subject aircraft is a Bf109E-3, flown by Leutnant Karl Leonard of 3/JG53 during the August - September period of 1940 when JG53 applied the distinctive RED band on the cowling over their 'Ace of Spades' Emblem. At this time Lt. Leonard had 2 victories.

This aircraft carried one version of a number of non standard camouflage patterns applied to the Geschwaders 109's during this period.
