They actually announced this several months ago. Malcolm had a stroke and was not going to be able to record or tour with the band anymore.

Dang that really stinks, I had not heard of him having a stroke.

My favorite has always been Thunder Struck.

A few months ago they announced he was taking leave from the band for undisclosed health issues and just yesterday made the announcement he retiring from the band. Biggest rumors are a stroke, cancer, and dymentia. Chris, have you heard it is confirmed what the issue is?

That's a shame. AC/DC is one of my favorite bands. That's right. Even 64 year olds can enjoy kickarse music.

I read a few months ago that it was a stroke, and that he would not be recording or touring with the band anymore. That came from Brian Johnson, Youngs family and their lawyer.

Seen them once in the 80s. At least there will still be a Young om rythm guitar - says their nephew Stevie Young will play guitar. Favorite song has always been "It's A Long Way To The Top". Bagpipes in a heavy metal song !!!!! Awesome!

Sad news this... him and Bon Scott were the two main characters of the group for me.

New report from two Australian newspapers........

The newspaper The Australian reports that Malcolm suffered a stroke last year, as the Sydney Morning Herald proclaims that the guitarist is currently suffering from serious dementia. While both a stroke and dementia have been rumored in past stories, these new articles give more credence to those earlier reports.

Both newspapers report that Malcolm is currently in full-time care at a nursing home facility called the Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay in suburban Sydney, Australia. A source close to the band tells the Sydney Morning Herald, “If you were in the room with [Malcolm] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn’t remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short-term memory.”

Meanwhile, in an article in The Australian newspaper [via the AAP newswire], AC/DC’s former manager Michael Browning says, “I have friends that are still involved and they keep me posted so I have known for a little while. I think [Young's illness] came on very suddenly,” adding, “It’s shocking, it’s terrible. Sadly for AC/DC they’re losing their creator, their mentor — he’s the genius behind the band.”

I've seen them four times. Twice in the late 70's. They'd play the "Day on the Green" in Oakland... They upstaged the others easily and that included a Ted Nugent in his prime and a very young Van Halen.

I have a pic somewhere that has Angus sitting on Bon Scott's shoulders playing guitar while Scott walked around and sang. Very cool times. I think that pic was at "Monsters of Rock" IIRC.
