Good stuff. The first one is an Israeli modified M60 and Land Rover 109, second is a JS2, third Einheits heavy truck and Horch heavy Field Car, not sure of the Russian stuff in the others, although I recognize them.
 
Ah, that's it, T28. Not a Puma though David, that was the late war version of the same chassis, with a 75mm gun in a turret. This is the early war version, the SdKfz number of which escapes me, but maybe 251 ?

Dragging into my memory of the big steam engines in the UK in the 1950s, I believe they were wind deflectors Matt, I think to provide a simple form of streamlining.
 
Some brilliant stuff here Wayne and from memory that steam engine on the turntable was quite large.

As for the side panels at the front folks, they are what the Brits called 'Smoke Deflectors, designed to lift the smoke away from the front of the loco so the engine driver can see up ahead.
