Bill, so the first 2 rows have 10 kills and the 3rd row has 4 from the front, the red arrow has nothing written in it, and of course, the white rudder??

David, the skin looks tits man, and the writing even better... I actually thought it looked real sharp compared to some.... How tight and detailed can u make the kills??? Good enough for the tight closeups I like to use???

The size of the skins allow for some real good resolution, usually you get image bleeding when the screenshot is converted to a .jpg and reduced in size. So for the vid, you should be able to get some good clear closeups.

Dan - If you send him my 'undiluted' side profiles (at 3.5MB) the damn things will really zoom in for detail. David could lift the kill markings the same way he nailed Iowa Beaut. Before I put the 'descriptions' on lower left side of view, all the NMF Mustangs come to me at 5.5MB. I also think the kill markings for WR-Y Dragon Wagon are really distinctive! ... Great job David!

Thanks Bill!

BTW, it wouldn't be a prob to send those pics, this PC has some decent horsepower and has DSL.

Now I did have a question regarding Woodson's WR-W...I see that it is portrayed as Cpt. Woody's and has 10 kills with a solid O/D tail as of April 44. Was Cpt. Woody still in WR-W, with Woolard taking her up on 11 September 44, or was Woody given another ride, and WR-W handed over to Woolard?

I'm in the final stages of Dragon Wagon and loaded it up for a look, and figured I'd have The Iowa Beaut along for company!

I see a few bugs that need to be ironed out, but overall, I think they're coming out well enough :thumbright:

Man, lookin better all the time Dave....

Still havent heard from Erich yet concerning the JG53 boys.... Must be tied up and all... I PM'd him to see if he would pop in....

Thanks! We still have a ways to go, but we're gettin' there!

Hey, will these count towards the Group Build, since I'm not making any progress on my '109 at the moment?

Now for the progress report...

I Want to get the B crates laid out, look for bugs and such, then finish 'em up and move on to the Ds.

Finished the heavy work on Woolard's, and "took it up" for a look. Figured since I was at it, may as well load 'em all up...even grabbed a cool screen of all three :thumbright:

Tomorrow I'll fine tune the three Bs and dirty them up a little!

great thread gents !

I'm still bound in part by the meds I am taking -aka no energies. My wife is struggling with her parents and must head up north 200 miles as Dad seems to be going off his rocker, not quite violently but real close so some things need to happen that are pressing the Family at the moment. I'll be home while she travels so will try and put 1 + 1 together. now we have JG 53 confirmed with it's 109G-6's then ? or is part of III./JG 300 involved.

I have a ton of file works on 11 September 44 but it is for the 94th and 100th bg and JG 4's assault on them but also IV.Sturm/JG 3. Obviously this is not the LW units we are searching for. If JG 53 we need to declare whether or not in Sept. 44 the 109's of the JG were wearing the black wide Reich band or not continually. for 1945 - yes confirmed.

We have the US B-24 bg confirmed ?

E ~ with questions obviously as I am coming on here late....

I'm not off to work yet but here goes from the volume 1 JG 300 bei Lorant/Goyat, translated by our forum member, Falkeeins.

having run into 10 P-51's not looking for combat at 8,000m west of Bad Hersfeld the 109's of III./JG 300 fell on B-24's near Gießen at 11.50hrs. 2 Libs were shot down, one at 11.54 by Lt. Lutz-Gottfried Hengst of 9th staffel, the other by Ofhr. Bruno Klostermann of 11th staffel at 11.57 hrs. Klostermanns wingman Uffz. Gerhard von Strassmann shot down an already damaged B-24 just moments later. III. gruppe then came under attack by Mustangs right after they made their pass on the Bombers. Ofhr. Köhler shot down a Mustang at 12.10hrs south of Marburg, but Lt. Ulrich Pieplow (Staffelführer of 12./JG 300) was fatally wounded at the controls of his Black 2, one of the last of the Gruppe's Bf 109G-6's. He apparently tired to belly in at Diedenhofen/Arnsberg. eyewitnesses saw his 109 fly a wide curve before levelling out in line up on the corn field. Suddenly his 109 sagged as its speed dropped off and it crashed after a plunge of 20 metres. ire broke out and then the fuselage fule tank exploded taking Pieplow out with the 109.

I've put in some subtle changes to the wording which should not effect the understanding of the script.

hope this helps, and now to try and find the JG 53 version if at all possible.

Guys for III./JG 300 markings: 9ths staffel had Yellow with black outline, 10th staffel was a Nacht-Mossie staffel and was not included in the III. gruppe line up as it flew nocturnally. 11th staffel red ?, 12th staffel had Black numbers with white outline. the wide rust-red defense band was worn on the fuselage of the III. gruppe and the gruppe carried no III gruppe bar marking the Band was left blank. The Gruppe was also composed of G-6, G-6/AS and a few G-14's A/C

Interesting too that the volume makes no mention of JG 53 being in the area of III./JG 300, so ............... ? Anything obviously is possible.

just as an add-on: I just ordered volume 3 of JG 53 Pk-AS by J. Prien, so that should be here in maybe 10 days to my door. this should cover the date in mention.

Thanks! We still have a ways to go, but we're gettin' there!

David - that WR-W was depicted as Bob Woody's ship after April 24, 1944. Woody went to 8th FC from 355th in May 1944 and the ship was re-assigned.

If you ever want to do an April 24 over Munich, this ship got four confirmed plus one shared in SW Munich area... first 8th AF fighter pilot to destroy 4 in the air on one mission.

WR-W on 9/11 had zero kill markings

Both. Woods has claims for 9./JG300 and 11./JG300 in this area as well as 9. and 11./JG53. I have the loss list for JG53 but not 300. All 109G6 with a possible -14. I'm cross checking now.

The only pic I had (above) was cockpit area - no stripes visible

Yes on the B-24s but only 2 were lost to fighters anywhere near Giessen - the other 392 ship went down Hannover-Misburg.

E ~ with questions obviously as I am coming on here late....

the 355th lost three to flak, the 364th lost a P-51 near Giessen and one near Sangerhausen but they were escorting the B-17 stikes headed for Leipzig.

The 364th ship lost near Giessen was apparently picked off in a bounce and dive - as all the 364th scores were in Nordhausen to Leipzig area.

The 4th and 359th battles were Merseburg/Erfurt/Eisleben areas way the hell in eastern Germany.

It is a sure thing that all the stuff from Giessen to SW Kassel were 355th tangles except for the lone 364th loss.

Erich, we're only going to concern ourselves with the 109G's of III./JG53 due to limitations of the IL2 and the number of aircraft in the air at one time.... Im going to include 12 JG53 109G-6's attacking the 24 578thBS/392ndBG B-24's escorted by the 8 354thFS -51's...

And also to keep the number of skins that need to be made down.... Hopefully, u might be able to provide some insight into the colors schemes and insignia of 9 11 Staffels for GrauGeist (Dave) to mimick some skins... Possibly some pilot info...

3 Pilots lost this day from III./JG53... Pics from Bill provided by Manks...

David - all the P-51B's had a white stripe on top, full invasion stripes on bottom, of wing.

The 7 JG53 ships (pilot/staffel) that were 100% destroyed by 355th were:
Harpel 11.
Amon 9.
Bar Stab III.
Heck 9.
Pusch 11.
Sommerhoff 11.
Weinzierl 11.

Still don't have this level of detail for JG300 but suspect all the above went down from Red and Yellow flight attacks.

Copy that Bill,

Wasn't sure about Woody's scheme in as far as Woodson was borrowing it for the mission, etc...

I'll post the corrections this evening!

Dan, I thought for sure you'd pick up on the birdcage "B" being in the flight of the two Malcom hood "B"s
