Was there any external differences between the A-2 and A-7 as in panel lines etc....?
yes each NJG had the Englandblitz in a different form on the shield, but worn only and generally in the early war years. I./NJG 1 and even NJGr 10 which had some He 219's had the small version of the blitz shield and then they were removed.
Personally I would not get that book but save to get the latest two volumes NJWD, but if you want more of the English accounts of the night air war then the Martin B./Theo B. book will fit the need

Sorry for being a bit late to the discussion. This discussion reminded me my library is lacking somewhat in quality Luftwaffe nightfighter references and I am intrigued by your recommendation of "NJWD". I'm not sure what these are, could I ask you to list the full name of the volumes and any other pertinent information? My main nightfighter reference is Peter Hinchliffe's The Other Battle and his biographies on Schnaufer and Lent. I still think The Other Battle is a quality reference, but my library could use more good stuff on nightfighting in WWII Europe.
