A pastor's wife was expecting a baby, so he stood before the congregation and asked for a raise. After much discussion, they passed a resolution that whenever the pastor's family expanded, so would his paycheck.
After six children, this began to get expensive, so the congregation held another meeting to discuss the pastor's expanding salary.
A great deal of bickering, then yelling ensued about how much the pastor's additional children were costing the membership and how much more it may possibly cost.
After about an hour of this, the pastor spoke to the meeting, "Children are a gift from God. We will take as many gifts as He gives us."
The congregation grew silent.
From the rear, an old lady stood, and said in a frail voice, "Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much of it, we wear rubbers."
The congregation said, "AMEN"
