The 14th annual Riverside Air Show will be taking place on April 1, 2006. This is a one day event packed with some great stuff. The website below lists some of the events for the day. Should be a good day for anyone who can attend. I will be there with a group of aviation photographers shooting away.

It started kinda good, then got bad, then got better. I arrived as the skies were clearing from overnight rain. I hooked up with a gaggle of aviation photographers that I have been hanging out with lately and we got breakfast. We went up on the hill for the best vantage point for photos and viewing before the rain hit, drenching us before we could find refuge. In the shots below, you can see the crowd from the hill before the rains, then the rains and everyone taking shelter wherever they could. Riverside PD gave a demonstration in the rain to demonstrate their all weather capability. Finally, blue skies appeared above the C-53. The weather warmed up and steam enveloped everything in a surreal scene for about 15-30 minutes.

Thanks Syscom. I picked up the Nikon D50. It was a package deal with a 28-80 zoom lens. I then picked up the 70-300 zoom, which is what produced the above shots. The results are quite impressive.

No, Erich, I was shooting all day and didn't actually get to chat with anyone. I was on a shakedown tour for the Nikon and that was my focus for the day (no pun intended). Although I have a shot of a WWII vet that I grabbed. I will post that one later. I have tons more in the edit pile for the website that should be done hopefully later this week.

Cheers, CC! I have about half of the pages built and posted on my website. I should be able to get the rest done by the end of the week. Although I am sometimes having trouble which shots to post as this camera gives me way more good shots than the old one. I guess that's a nice problem to have.

I have met my deadline and posted a complete new section on my website from this show. 245 of the pictures I took at the show are up on the site in 22 separate pages. Feel free to go have a look around and enjoy.

Joe, there is a whole page for the Thunder Delfins, if you want to pass it along to Doug.

Evan, I was browsing around your sites and saw the Hunter than had been used for dissimilar aircraft training. I would love to know how it got on against more modern aircraft. Do you have any idea or does anyone else?

That I am not sure. Joe might know. They have quite a few foreign planes they use for the training.

There's a company from Canada who operates 2 hunters and 2 Kifirs at Point Mugu Naval Weapons station - they're used for penetration missions - they attempt to sneak up on ships at high speed, testing the ship's radar.

I know Hunters were used for dissimilar aircraft training, air-to-air. The Test Pilot's school at Edwards "borrowed" a few over the years from private owners. I never heard how they fared against other aircraft.
