"Flags of Our Fathers" wasn't too bad, although it focused more on the three survivors' lives during the warbond tour and after the war. "Letters From Iwo Jima" was EXCELLENT, both as a Pacific-based movie and a glimpse into the daily goings-on of the Japanese grunts. But there's a million and more stories from the Pacific that could use a good telling...

The Thin Red Line tried very hard but IMO, was short of great. i think it was choked by poor casting and bombastic directing.


The imagery of the elephant grass and the mud were very effective though.

I understand what your saying about "the thin red line"...but I like it for what it "is" and not for what it isn't...better movies about the Pacific have been made (now) but it was a step in the right direction (at the time).

I've said this before but what the heck...Eastwood is the only person who could have made this movie for American audiences. If this movie was made by a Japanese their would always be a measure of doubt, with the audience, as to the directors motivation for making a movie that showed the "human" side of the solders experience... But no one can question Eastwoods patriotism (he would just say "go to hell" anyway_lol).

"The Great Raid"...dunno if anyone's mentioned it here yet. That was another great movie, that followed pretty darn close with the book ("Ghost Soldiers")...except for the plane that was supposed to cause a diversion. Man, I was sooooo lookin forward to seein the P-61 fly!!!! Dangit!
 


I thought the same thing! Come on don't be cheap and CG on in there! Cool to see a Hudson, but just not the same as to the POW the Widow was so futuristic, having never seen it before.
 
HBO has begun to add alot of great featurette's to their Youtube Channel including character profile's for all the main characters. Previously these were only available to Comcast customers. As for now Robert Leckie's is the only one that has been officially added but I will post the others as they become available.
