SoCal is bracing for a huge storm:
This one looks really big and the potential for flooding and debris flows is huge.
* Strong thunderstorms possible today into tonight
-- Some of tstorms may contain...
- Small hail
- Wind gusts over 50 mph
- Torrential downpours
- Isolated weak tornadoes
* Rainfall Totals this week of 4-8" coast/valleys and 8-16" favored
SSW-facing coastal mountain slopes with local 20+" amounts
possible, even the deserts may recieve 1.5 to 4".
* Snow levels fluctuate from 3,500 feet to 6,000 feet rest of the
week.
* Snow Totals several feet possible.
- Avalanche potential below steeper slopes
* Debris flows possible for recent burn areas
- Focus will be on thunderstorm activity
* Small stream and urban flooding likely
* Waterspouts possible in coastal waters this evening.
* Large westerly swell through at least Friday.
- Coastal Flooding possible (west-facing beaches)
NWS is indicating this will likely be the wettest week since early 2005
and fairly similar to the first week in February 1998.
