I went on the sunday and nothing flew D.
16 Spites, Hurries the jug etc etc and only the Chinook and a Chippy managed a flight the weather never got beyond 400 yards visability all day so they gave us a discount on the next event. I was mighty pissed of I tell yer.

I bet you were! And the discount wouldn't have helped me as I'm 2 hours away. And it probably wouldn't have been worth the effort.

Heres a bit of local news from yesterday 28th sept .
600 meters off of Canvey Island sea shore (which is about 800 meters from my house) a survey vessel discovered what they took to be a WW2 mine. RN bomb disposal arrived and after a zero visability finger tip recon by naval divers it was found to be a L mine mkIII these where planted in the shipping channels by the British and linked to the shore by cable where a sentry would be able to detonate it under any enemy vessels attempting a sneak attack. This particular one contain 3200lbs of explosive. Due to its proximity to housing it was raised and taken to Shoburyness MOD range 5 miles away where it was detonated in 10 meters of water sending up a 200 ft column of water.

Like the shot Les, the channel is an ideal place for diving would'nt you say? like swimming in soup and bleeding cold all year round
Your right Evan it would have to be a sub to strike it but as its only 25 meters deep in the shipping channel it would not be much of a dive :) They seem to find old ordenance on a regular basis in the Thames estuary although we where a bit suprised that as it was known about it was not removed, but I suppose with so many UXB's in and around London after the war to contend with it was just left to rot, if it had of gone off my double glazing would'nt have liked it. Even from 5 miles away it went off with a fair old wallop.

I had the opportunity to dive in the Channel a couple times in the past, and it was no treat..... The viso was only about 2 feet, which was a good day, and cold as hell....
I know what you mean Les, it was not much better when I dived in the North Sea (not something I would do again). Cold and zero visiblity just isn't enjoyable. Which is why it is unlikely I will dive in Britain again unless it gets considerably warmer.

I was amazed at the amount of UXBs they found over there while I was there. They found a big one in London in an emergency water storage tank. I remember that they had to bring in some UDT guys to assist because the EOD guys weren't dive certified and they worried that if they drained out the water, the bomb might go off. I spoke with one of the EOD guys and he said they brought ti to the surface to diffuse it. He said it was pretty scary when they cut into the fuse, they heard a hissing sound. For a moment, he thought he was dead before remembering that the fuse was vacuum sealed.

A few pics of todays Bus rally just up the road from my house, I never even knew it was happening till I got home from work.
Not that im into buses but someone may be, there where a few other vehicles that I did like though.
