...... I did see one about a month ago and it surprised me.

Wheelsup

Short freight trains used for local service that needs to back up a considerable distance, will still use a caboose for the convenience and safety of the crew. It's because of safety rules dictate on how long someone can stay on the ladders and handholds.

Yeah, the railroad don't even call them cabooses anymore, they are now "Shoving platforms"

Here's a few over the years from Gaithersbug MD including Marc train in the fog, and the last Conrail painted SD-60. This is the Metropolitian line north of Washington DC on the CSX.
Also note the Soviet/Nazi style MARC poster. Also pictured a mile south is Hershey's resutrant- the best fried chicken in the DC Metro area.

Yes.

And you will LOVE the train ride.

I took it last summer from Portland down to Los Angeles. One of the finest experiences I have had!

That pic of the station in the rain, with the empty table and chair ........ that looks like it was a cold dreary day!

It was- that was taken in January 2005 and it was in the high 30s if I remember right. The next morning was the first time I expierinced east coast ice...

Photo:

1.) Two passengers await thier ride home at Kensington MD

2.)3:55 pm Marc train pulls in- I over estimated the trains speed and the shutter lag on the camera- yes it's official- I have lost my touch with train photography.
I wanted to catch the train as it came out into the sun light with the station in the frame. As you see I didn't get that at all in the entire series. I will have to repeat this attempt this summer with longer days and change of shadow.

3.)Not a bad photo but I rushed it and got the framing off and cut out the station- Here's what I found online about MARC Locomotive 61

Owner: Maryland Transit Administration
Model: GP40WH-2 Built As: MILW 174 (GP40)
Serial Number: 32294 Order No: 7924
Frame Number: 7924-1 Built: 10/1966

4.)Train at the stop

5.)Not the photo with the station I had in mind but I like it.

6.)I like this shot best of all out of them today. It gives good effect to the radiators.

7.)Train departs, next stop Rockville MD

8.)Signal's gone red.
